So are you saying in theory(while not recommended) with my 5. Lastly, you made a comment regarding Rockbox. So in theory(depending on song file size of course) if I have no data like album art etc attached to any of my music and its just raw files for playback, I could fit over 20,000 songs, correct? As long as I am meeting and hitting under that 32mb ram cache or whatever?Īlso in a different scenario if I wanted to use my ipod doubled as a storage device, say I dropped in 512gb sd card, had 15k songs, would I be able to use the remaining storage space for actual files on the drive like movies, actual song files(not loaded in itunes) or even perhaps a full backup of the actual music files? If you put a bunch of ics on a solo to adapt storage types it might negate the bigger battery, I’m in my 5th year of ECE but we haven’t learned any real-world applications of. I too would also like to clarify a couple things. Maybe an iFlash Solo 2 will come out that uses microSD, but it’d probably be easier to pull microSD slots from a quad and find a way to solder them on the solo. I'll probably take out 256gb and see if that does help because I am not quite sure if was to much storage to read properly or to many songs. What is your experience? Where are the limitations? I obviously wanted to much and he was overwhelmed with 20'000+ songs. Now I put a few songs on him and it worked. SO I reseted, and he got stuck on the reset for several hours until I gave up and went into DFU and restored. When I tried to play a song he got stuck and wasn't responding. It worked and I unplugged him in the evening. No biggie happened before with OG ones so I just have to wait a bit longer. During the night something went wrong and about 9'000 songs didn't sync. I synced all my 23'232 songs and went to bed with high hopes for the morning to enjoy my library on the go. Plugged the bad boy in and was amazed that it worked and iTunes took it like it was nothing. This all worked quite fine and the installation (after ruining a headphone jack ribbon) went well. I Flash Quad with: 2x256gb and 1x128gb (iTunes gives me a 589.62gb capacity) The Front Panel is from my one true iPod I had for 11 years (it certainly shows, grey and worn down but I love him this way)Ĭlickwheel from a good condition 6h (the middle button from my og)īack plate from a 30gb 5th gen in ok-ish condition I made a post a couple weeks ago about how I was having trouble getting my 6th generation iPod classic to work with an iFlash solo adapter. So I did and I call him "Frankensteins Monster the iPod" because: I had for about 11 years finally broke down so I had the idea of getting a 5th gen and put a iFlash quad in it for maximum storage. I used to have several different iPods and other music players over the years but I seem to get drawn back to the classic every time. PS- it is kinda strange to see and use a full-sized SD card.To skip to my actual point without the story only read the BOLD part on the bottom Would have done this sooner if I had known. Watching a few videos online meant I could tackle it without issues. Think this was a cool project to undergo. Have not measured battery life, as it typically is connected to car radio. I don’t notice much in the way of wake or search time improvements, but that may be from the increased library size. Already have a 128gb SD so I figured it'd be better to get an iFlash Solo SD and a new battery. The iPod is now significantly lighter, and no longer has that noise from the hard drive spinning up and seeking the next track, so it has taken a little getting used to. Not my entire library, but substantially more.Ĭould have gone with a larger card, or with a multi-card adapter, but I like the iPod software and don’t want to play with Rockblox (sp?) again. Replacing the spinning hard drive with this adapter and pairing it with a 256GB SD card means I can bring more of my library with me. Since then, I have moved over to lossless compression on my music, and would have to make choices on which music to bring along. When the iPod with video came out and had 80GB of storage, I could put an entire library of 160-256kbps music, podcasts, and music videos on it.
